There are times when I come to a canvas with an idea already fleshed out. There are other, as with this one, where I sit with the blank surface and wait to see what it reveals. A process that is one of my favorites to stoke the creative fire, is to start with background colors that I am feeling at the moment: a wash of background color/s, and loose swathes of spray paint, and accent hues with a palette knife or swiped or thrown on. It was a muted blue with Payne's Gray that emerged. It made for a calm backdrop that then became a scene for my muse: full-bodied and serene, reaching for the remnants of a dream. She is seated on multicolored fabrics and surrounded by foliage and elements of her reverie that fade as she wakes.
