Heading into fall...

Heading into fall...

Summer days, of late, have been getting shorter. I enjoy the PNW sunshine all the more, knowing that fall is just around the corner and that the endless hours of sun and warmth will soon be gone. I'm not inconsolable, though. Fall and autumn are two of my favorite times of year: the bracing chill and rain in September and October seem to waken my senses, while the striking oranges, yellows and greens of late October and into November always inspire with their vibrancy and life.

I've been busy, this July and August. I've joined another band (don't worry, I'm still with my forever band: Todo Es Latin Jazz)!! ;) The new one is all female-fronted, with two friends who are smashing vocalists, and a top-notch group of instrumentalists to round us out. Name still pending. Think high energy pop/funk. I'm soooooo excited! We are squeezing in rehearsals for our first two shows lined up in November and December. Stay tuned!

Also on the horizon: a group exhibit titled: Tonantzin Eterna Protectora- An Exploration of La Virgen de Guadalupe, with three other fantastic Latina artists to share our visions of this figure that so many look to for protection and guidance. My personal take on this was to examine the history of colonialism and religious syncretism that led to the destruction of long held beliefs and practices, specifically, the worship of the goddess Tonantzin and her eventual subsumption into the invaders' holy figure- the Virgen Mary. I imagine Tonantzin as a young woman today, walking amongst us, quietly imparting her wisdom, power, and perseverance to those who seek her.

See my vision and the entire exhibit at the Columbia City Gallery in Seattle from Oct. 15th-Nov. 23, 2025. You can find all of the latest events and news on my Instagram page: @rngarciaart.

Meanwhile, here I will share the first piece, Tonantzin: Wisdom, Vida, y Resistencia, finished August 22, 2025.
